Busia 5 Year Anniversary Celebration

Busia Branch held their 5 Year Anniversary Celebration
August 30, 2014.
The event began at 10:00 am with three sisters being baptized.
What a great way to begin the day together!

Food preparations began early.

Beef, fish, vegetables and rice were prepared in these pots.
The rice mixture is called Pilau.

Chapati, a fried bread was cooked on these charcoal stoves.

Following the baptisms, the group gathered to the chapel area where each of the organizations performed for the group in attendance.  The primary children sang with such enthusiasm and included verses to Book of Mormon Stories that were new to us. The YW did a skit to teach about being strong in keeping the word of wisdom and dealing courageously with peer pressure. The YM sang a song. Their voices struggled somewhat (their leader said their voices were scratchy because they had been fighting Satan).  All the missionaries and returned missionaries sang Called to Serve.  The Elders sang an amazing rendition of Master the Tempest is Raging.   The RS sang some songs then Elder and Sister Horner spoke and Pres. Imende concluded.  It was past time for lunch.
Following lunch, we gathered again in the chapel for Kick Off training for FSY.
Kenya will have its first ever For the Strength of Youth Conference Dec 15-19 at Kabarak University in Nakuru.  Nakaru is between Nairobi and Kisumu.
This promises to be a life changing experience for the youth and their families!
We have had some wonderful experiences in teaching our branches about this event.
So many of our students leave this week for boarding schools so the timing has been perfect.

They use plates for serving utensils and it works great!

We thank our Heavenly Father for the blessing of getting to know and love
our wonderful brothers and sisters here in  Busia and in the different areas where we serve.
Our opportunities are many and so varied.  Each day promises new experiences!
This IS the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!
We are strengthened by their testimonies and their love of the Lord.
We treasure this time and this place to serve!
